Composer and conductor Nejc Bečan (1984) began his music career in his hometown of Tržič (Slovenia), where he attended lessons of clarinet and saxophone. He continued to improve his saxophone skills by studying jazz at Ljubljana Conservatory for Music and Balet. In 2009, he graduated “summa cum laude” in studies of composition and music theory at the Ljubljana Academy of Music.
His most notable compositions include Prelude to a Kiss, Concerned about Saxophone, Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, original score for the movie Vampir z Gorjancev, Simfonieta #1 and Simfonieta #2 (for wind orchestra), Divertimento (wind orchestra), Clownology (string sextet), Temper, Temper (for brass ensemble) and more.
In 2011 he finished his conducting studies at the Ljubljana Academy and continued to develop his skills at the Vienna Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, finishing a postgraduate study course in 2013.
He is known as chief conductor of the Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra, which he co-founded in 2002 as well as conductor and artistic director of the Slovenian Police Orchestra (since 2014).
